Cameron Shines in Hens Loss to Red Wings

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo Mud Hens were defeated 3-2 by the Rochester Red Wings on Saturday night at Fifth Third Field.

Daz Cameron shined in his second game at the Triple-A level going 2-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.

Byron Buxton led off the game with a double to left-center and Robbie Grossman followed suit with one out to bring in Buxton and give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Cameron recorded his first hit at the Triple-A level with a double to lead off the bottom half of the first inning. Christin Stewart then moved the runner over on a deep fly ball to center field. Jason Krizan earned a two-out walk to give Toledo runners on the corners. The Mud Hens tied the game as Lugo singled to left bringing in Cameron.

In the third inning, Buxton hit a blooper into center and Cameron robed him of a hit with a diving snag.

Rochester regained the lead in the fourth inning when Kenny Vargas launched a solo home run to deep center field.

Toledo fought back in the fifth inning and tied the game. Kozma led off with a single into left field and moved to second on a wild pitch. Cameron then roped a double off the left-center field wall to bring in Kozma and tie the game.

Mud Hens starter Warwick Saupold had his night come to an end after allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk while fanning four. Paul Voelker entered the game and delivered a scoreless sixth frame allowing two hits and striking out one before handing the ball off to Josh Smoker.

In the seventh inning Rochester took a one run lead for the third time. Buxton smacked a double and was brought in on a single by Nick Gordon giving the Red Wings a 3-2 advantage.

Hunter Cervenka took over the pitching duties as Smoker handed over the ball. Smoker allowed one earned run on two hits while punching out one in one inning of work. Cervenka did not allow a run in one inning of work, surrendering one hit while fanning two.

Johnny Barbato came in to pitch the ninth inning for Toledo and allowed one walk and striking out one.

What's Next:

The Mud Hens will take on the Red Wings in the final game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. tomorrow evening.

- Daz Cameron recorded his first hit and first RBI at the Triple-A level in tonight's contest.

- With the addition of Daz Cameron, the Mud Hens now have eight of the Tigers top 30 prospects, according to MLB Pipeline, on their roster. Two are on the DL.

- Prior to Friday's game, LHP Ryan Carpenter was promoted to Detroit following Blaine Hardygoing to the DL. OF Daz Cameron was promoted to Toledo as well, with Alfred Gutierrezreturning to Erie.

- With an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning, Chad Huffman extended his hitting streak to nine consecutive games.

- IF Pete Kozma played in his 1000th career minor league baseball game tonight.
