Montgomery Biscuits News Release
KODAK, Ten. - It took 11 innings, but the Biscuits (48-41) bounced back from a 6-2 defeat on Monday night with a 4-3 victory in extras over the Tennessee Smokies (48-41) on Tuesday afternoon at Smokies Stadium.
Brock Burke made his Double-A debut for the Butter and Blue and looked sharp early, striking out the side in the first inning. Thomas Milone would provide the lefty with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a floater of a two-run double down the left field line off Tennessee starter Thomas Hatch.
In the bottom of the second, the Smokies pulled one back thanks to an RBI-single by Will Remillard to make it a 2-1 game. Burke started the sixth inning, but then exited with an undisclosed injury, ending his debut on five innings of two-run ball on four hits, two walks, and six strikeouts. Travis Ott came on to relieve the 21-year-old, and served up a two-run double to Jesse Hodges that put Tennessee ahead, 3-2.
An inning later, Milone was at it again, fisting an RBI-single into right-center field to tie the game at three as the game shifted to extras. The Biscuits couldn't get anything going in the top of the 10
th, but in the bottom half, the Smokies would load the bases with two outs for Vimael Machin.
Yoel Espinal (1-1), who took over after three sparkling innings that included six strikeouts from Curtis Taylor, dealt three-straight balls Machin's way before fighting back with three-straight strikes to end the inning on a clutch punchout for the right-hander.
In the 11th, Mike Brosseau untied the game for good with an RBI-single into right-center that scored Milone from second, and Espinal shut things down in the bottom half of the inning to move the Biscuits to within a game of first place in the Second Half North Division.
Montgomery will try to win the series in Wednesday night's finale when Genesis Cabrera (6-4) battles Michael Rucker (6-4) at 6:00 PM CT.
Once the Biscuits conclude their current nine-game road trip, the team will return to Riverwalk Stadium to open up a five-game series with the Mississippi Braves on Wednesday, July 18 when there will be a Bucket Hat Giveaway. The series will also include Outdoors Night featuring a Hunter Camo T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, July 19, First Responders Night & MAX Fireworks on Friday, July 20, Millennial Night featuring a Participation Ribbon Giveaway & MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 21, and then a Mascot Poster Giveaway on Sunday, July 22.
