PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, July 8. Mississippi Braves right fielder, Tyler Neslony and right-handed pitcher, Bryse Wilson have been selected for the weekly awards.
Neslony, the 24-year old right fielder, has been named the Mississippi Farm Bureau Player of the Week after posting a .353 batting average (6-for-17) along with three runs scored, two doubles, one home run, two runs batted in and four walks. Neslony's lone home run of the season occurred on Sunday, July 8 at Regions Field against the Birmingham Barons and it proved to be a difference maker as the M-Braves came away with a 1-0 victory in game one of the series. Over the span of 82 games played with the Mississippi Braves in 2018, Neslony has compiled 27 runs scored, 15 doubles, two triples, one home run, 36 runs batted in, 91 total bases, 19 walks and four stolen bases.
For the season, Neslony currently sits on a .232 batting average (69-for-297) along with a .279 on-base percentage, a .306 slugging percentage, and a .585 on-base plus slugging percentage. A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, Neslony was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the ninth round (259th) overall in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas Tech University. During his time as a Red Raider, Neslony was an integral part in helping Texas Tech advance to two College World Series, including the school's first-ever appearance in 2014 after driving in the game-winning run in game one and scoring the game-winning run in game two of the Lubbock Super Regional.
Wilson, the 20-year old right-handed pitcher, made two road starts during the week (July 3 at Pensacola and July 8 at Birmingham) going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. In his two starts combined, Wilson pitched a total of 13.1 innings, allowed nine hits, issued one walk and struck out 16. Wilson did not allow a run in either contest. The Atlanta Braves No. 12 overall prospect also became the first M-Braves player to garner a Southern League weekly award after being named Southern League Pitcher of the Week on Monday, July 9.
On the season, Wilson has posted a 4.81 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. In 12 starts with the M-Braves in 2018, Wilson has allowed 66 hits, 37 runs, 31 earned runs, three home runs, has issued 20 walks and struck out 63 in 58.0 innings pitched. The Hillsborough, North Carolina native was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fourth round (109th overall) of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Orange High School (Hillsborough, North Carolina.)
The Mississippi Braves are the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since the inaugural 2005 season, over 125 M-Braves have gone on to Major League Baseball.
