Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - Biloxi Shuckers RHP Luis Ortiz has been added to the 2018 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game roster. He will join Keston Hiura as the Brewers organization representatives and will play for Team USA on Sunday, July 15 at Nationals Park.
Ortiz has tossed 49 innings with the Shuckers this season. The former first-round pick has 51 strikeouts and has pitched to a 4.41 ERA while making seven starts and earning a pair of saves. The Brewers acquired Ortiz in a trade during the 2016 deadline that sent Jonathan Lucroy and Jeremy Jeffress to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Ortiz, Lewis Brinson and Ryan Cordell.
Ortiz will become the fifth Biloxi Shuckers player to participate in the All-Star Futures Game. Shortstop Orlando Arcia went to the game at Great American Ballpark in 2015, lefty Josh Hader was a part of the game in 2016 at Petco Park, and shortstop Mauricio Dubon was one of three Brewers farmhands to attend the game in 2017 at Marlins Park. Current Shuckers outfielder Corey Ray made the trip to Marlins Park for the game in 2017 while he was a member of the Carolina Mudcats, and former Shuckers pitching coach Chris Hook served as the pitching coach for Team USA in 2015.
The 20th All-Star Futures Game kicks off the 2018 Major League Baseball All-Star festivities at Nationals Park on Sunday, July 15 at 3:00 PM CT. The game can be streamed on MLB.com and viewed on MLB Network.
