Kane County Cougars News Release
PEORIA, Ill. - Greg Billo posted his first quality start of the season on Sunday afternoon and gave the Kane County Cougars their sixth quality start in the last 10 games, but it was not enough, as the Cougars never enjoyed a lead and lost, 4-1, against the Peoria Chiefs at O'Brien Field. The Cougars have lost 13 of their last 15 games and have scored just one run in each of their last five defeats.
Billo (0-1) gave up single runs in the third and fourth innings for his only blemishes over six innings. He walked one and matched the Cougars' season-high for strikeouts with eight in the loss. The Cougars' starting rotation now owns a 1.74 ERA over the last 10 games, but the team is 2-8 in that span.
The Cougars' lone run came in the sixth off Peoria starter Su-Min Jung (1-0). Gerard Hall led off with a triple and scored on a one-out grounder by Ryan Jenkins, who earlier in the game doubled to advance his hitting streak to nine games. Dusty Odenbach took over for Billo and worked a perfect seventh before yielding two runs in the eighth for the 4-1 final. Marcus Hatley notched his first save for the Chiefs with a 1-2-3 ninth. The Cougars outhit Peoria, 8-7, but also grounded into a pair inning-ending double plays.
The Cougars (9-22) and Chiefs (16-14) conclude the three-game set Monday at 11 a.m. CT. Leonel Santiago (2-3, 3.63) is scheduled to oppose Cam Greathouse (1-2, 4.32). The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online via kccougars.com with pregame coverage starting at 10:45 a.m.
