Chiefs Top Kane County 4-1 On Sunday

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs got another stellar effort out of their starting pitcher to beat the Kane County Cougars for the second straight day, 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. Su-Min Jung pitched a career-high 6 1/3 innings for the win in his second start of the year. The Chiefs improved to 16-14 on the season and 4-1 on the current homestand.

Peoria grabbed the lead first in the third inning that began with Anthony Giansanti's third double of the year. With two outs, Giansanti stole third base before Pierre LePage knocked a RBI single into right field for a 1-0 advantage.

The Chiefs increased their lead to 2-0 in the bottom half of the fourth inning off Cougars' starter Greg Billo. Richard Jones led off with a four-pitch walk ahead of Elliot Soto who reached on a fielding error by Kane County's third baseman Ryan Stovall. Following a double play that left Soto at second base, Arismendy Alcantara singled into left field to bring Soto home.

Kane County cut the Chiefs' lead in half in the sixth inning highlighted by a lead off triple from Gerald Hall. Hall blasted the first pitch into the right field corner for the three-base hit and later scored on Ryan Jenkins' RBI groundout to make it 2-1.

Peoria scored its final two runs of the game in its final trip to the plate in the eighth inning. Matt Szczur led off with a base hit into right field and stole second before LePage recorded a bunt single that moved Szczur to third. As Smaily Borges struck out with runners on the corners, the third strike got away from the catcher allowing Szczur to score and LePage to advance to third. Soto lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to secure LePage for the final run of the game.

Jung (1-0) allowed just one run on seven hits in a career-high 6 1/3 innings of work. He did not walk a batter and struck out two. Jeff Antigua pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief work and allowed just one hit while striking out two. Marcus Hatley did not allow a run or hit in the final inning of work while recording his first save of the season.

Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Su-Min Jung (RH) - Jung pitched a career-high 6 2/3 innings for his first win of the season. He allowed just one run on seven hits and did not allow a walk. Jung also struck out two batters in his second start of the season.
