Big Rally Earns Chiefs 8-2 Win over Herd

Buffalo Bisons News Release
At 14-games under the .500 mark, the Syracuse Chiefs probably aren't going to make the 2015 International League playoffs. Lately, they've sure enjoyed the role of spoiler.
The Chiefs won their 11th straight contest Friday night, handing the Bisons an 8-2 loss from NBT Bank Stadium. Syracuse scored all eight of the runs in the fourth inning, sending 12 men to the plate against Herd starter Scott Copeland.
The big rally came just moments after Matt Hague put the Herd in front with his 10th home run of the season. The 1-0 lead was short-lived as the first five Chiefs batters recorded hits, with Kevin Keyes homering in Jason Martinson and Matt Stoke to give Syracuse the lead.
A 3-1 grew quickly thanks to Josh Johnson's sacrifice fly and run scoring hits from Steven Lerud and former Bison Darin Mastroianni. Martinson, who led off the inning with a single, doubled in his second at-bat in the frame for a seventh Chiefs' run, knocking Copeland from the game.
Stoke then joined Martinson with two hits in the inning one batter later, doubling in an eighth and final run off reliever Bobby Korecky.
The Chiefs offensive explosion unfortunately overshadowed another fantastic game from Hague. Along with his fourth-inning home run, the Bisons' most valuable player singled twice and picked up his 30th double of the season. The four hits give him 159 on the season, the 2nd most in a single season in the Bisons modern era.
After passing Brandon Phillips' 2004 mark of 158 hits, only Jhonny Peralta's 181 hits during that same season stands in the way for Hague to write his name in the Bisons record books.
Copeland's loss drops the righty to 9-4 on the season. His league-leading ERA rose from 1.96 to 2.60, now behind Bisons' teammate Randy Wolf (2.44) and two others on the leaderboard.
The Bisons will look to rebound Saturday evening at Syracuse with Chad Jenkins on the Hil (7:05 p.m.).
