Big Nights from Cacok and Hearn Not Enough in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, UT - The South Bay Lakers failed to win on the second night of their latest back-to-back as they lost to the Salt Lake City Stars, 113-100, on Thursday night. Reggie Hearn scored a season-high 22 points and Devontae Cacok grabbed his eighth double-double, but it wasn't enough for South Bay (5-5) to grab the win. Trevon Bluiett led the Stars (7-2) with 29 points off the bench.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with the Stars coming out on top with a 32-31 lead through one. Miye Oni scored 10 points in the opening frame and Hearn had the hot hand for South Bay with 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. The Stars took a 59-49 halftime lead as they held the Lakers to 18 points in the second quarter. Bluiett scored 16 points in the first half for the home team.

Despite eight points in the third quarter from Talen Horton-Tucker, Salt Lake City maintained their lead over South Bay, 83-72, going into the fourth. South Bay continued to fight in the final frame, with Marcus Allen and Kostas Antetokounmpo combining for 14 points, but 12 points from Bluiett helped seal the deal for the Stars.

Bluiett's game-high 29 points guided the Stars to their seventh consecutive victory. William Howard led the starters with 19 points and Oni finished the night with 15 points and six assists. Jarrell Brantley had an all-around performance with 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks and Nigel Williams-Goss followed suit with 10 points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals. Rodney Pryor and Justin Wright-Foreman each scored 12 points off the bench.

Hearn finished with 22 points as he shot 6-11 from beyond the arc and Cacok muscled his way to 14 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks off the bench. Horton-Tucker scored 16 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block, while Antetokounmpo tallied 15 points, seven rebounds, one assist and a block. Allen put up a season-best 16 points and Gary Payton II also finished in double figures with 12 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and five steals.

South Bay now heads home to take on the Memphis Hustle on Saturday, December 7 at 5:00pm from the UCLA Health Training Center.
