Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, PA - Big innings were too much for the Altoona Curve as the Portland Sea Dogs (AA-Boston Red Sox) took the middle game of a three game set 13-4 Wednesday night at Blair County Ballpark.
The Sea Dogs jumped out early on Curve starter Kyle Bloom with three runs in the top half of the first inning including an RBI double by C Luis Exposito. Exposito finished the night 4-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.
The Curve would rally to tie the game at three after Jason Delaney belted a two-run home run in the fourth inning off of Sea Dogs starting pitcher Blake Maxwell.
Portland would take control of the game from there adding three runs in the fifth and three more in the eighth with Yamaico Navarro and Daniel Nava each drilling solo home runs. The Sea Dogs would cap off the night with a four-run ninth to finish with 13 runs on 16 hits in the game.
Delaney finished the night 2-for-4 with a home run and added to his team leading RBI total which now stands at 52. Steve Lerud also excelled for the Curve hitting in each of his first three at-bats in a 3-for-4 night. Lerud has now hit three times in both games with Portland this series.
Bloom (4-8) takes his second straight loss against Portland after tossing 4.0 innings and allowing six runs on five hits. Bloom was also on the losing end of Portland's 9-0 win over the Curve on 8/5 at Hadlock Field in Portland.
The Curve (48-69) and Sea Dogs (57-58) conclude their three game series Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and radio coverage of the series finale will begin at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Affiliates.
The Curve send newly acquired right hander Tim Alderson (8-1, 3.09) to the mound for his third start with Altoona after being acquired in the trade for Freddy Sanchez. Alderson will be up against Portland lefty Kason Gabbard (0-3, 19.64).
The series closes on Thirsty Thursday at BCB. Fans can take advantage of drink specials of half priced 22 oz sodas and 16 oz Yuengling draft beers. Great seats are still available for Thursday and all remaining Curve home games this season. Fans interested in tickets can call 877-99-CURVE, go online to altoonacurve.com, or come in person to the Blair County Ballpark Box Office for more details.
