Chesapeake Baysox News Release

BOWIE, Md. - The Baysox struck first and last against New Hampshire, pulling out a walk-off win in the bottom of the 12th to earn a 4-3 victory. Catcher Adam Donachie lifted a sacrifice fly with one out to score right fielder Ambiorix Concepcion, plating the Baysox first run since jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Right-hander Ryan Ouellette picked up his fourth win of the season, working 3.0 scoreless innings of relief allowing one hit and striking out three.

"This is the type of momentum we need to take over the last month of the season and hopefully take it into the playoffs with us," Ouellette said. "It was great for me just to get back in a rhythm because since the All-Star break I've been struggling."

The Baysox got on the board in the first against Fisher Cats right-hander Kenny Rodriguez. Center fielder Danny Figueroa walked with one out and third baseman Josh Bell singled to put runners at first and second. One batter later, second baseman Miguel Abreu laced an RBI single to left to put the Baysox on the board. Fisher Cats left fielder Todd Donovan tossed the ball to third, but no one was covering the base and the ball skipped into the dugout. Both runners were awarded two bases, scoring Bell as Abreu advanced to third. Concepcion took very next pitch down the line in left for an RBI double to give Bowie a 3-0 lead.

New Hampshire answered back with a single run in the third inning against Baysox right-hander Pedro Beato. With runners on first and second and nobody out, Scott Campbell drove a pitch back up the middle into center field for an RBI single. Now facing a jam with runners on the corners and nobody out, Beato retired the next three hitters in order to escape without any further damage.

Beato came back out to start the sixth inning, but fell behind in the count and then allowed a solo home run to Bradley Emaus to cut the lead to one. That would be all for the right-hander, departing the game with the lead after 5.0 innings allowing two earned runs on five hits while walking one and striking out four.

"You can't do that kind of stuff up here," Beato said of the home run. "It's hard to get away with it at the lower levels but up here you've got to be a lot more precise where you're locating your pitches."

The Baysox had a chance to extend the lead in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with nobody out against left-hander Edgar Estanga. Right-hander Zach Dials came on to replace Estanga, and got the first out of the inning on a force at home off the bat of shortstop Carlos Rojas. With the bases still loaded, Dials induced left fielder Jonathan Tucker into an inning-ending double play, leaving the Baysox empty-handed and clinging to a one-run lead.

Left-hander Chad Thall lost the lead in the eighth, allowing a walk to Emaus before a single by David Cooper put runners at first and third with nobody out. Thall induced Adam Calderone to ground into a double play, but Emaus crossed the plate with the tying run and handing Thall his first blown save since July 9, 2008 as a member of the Frederick Keys.

Missed opportunities plagued the Baysox again in the bottom of the ninth against Fisher Cats righty Danny Farquhar. Danny Figueroa was hit by a pitch to start the inning, advancing to second on the third hit of the game by Bell. First baseman Eric Crozier laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Figueroa beat the throw to third to load the bases with nobody out for the second time in the game. Much like the sixth inning, a force out at home off the bat of Abreu got the first out of the inning. Concepcion followed with a 6-4-3 double play, ending the threat and sending the Baysox into extra innings for the sixth time on the season.

The Baysox finally broke through in the 12th inning, as Concepcion doubled off Leon Boyd to put the winning run in scoring position with one out. An intentional walk to right fielder Dave Krynzel put runners at first and second for Donachie, and Boyd uncorked a wild pitch to move Concepcion to third. With the winning run just 90 feet away, Donachie reached out and poked a lazy fly to left field off the side-armed Boyd. Donovan caught the ball in stride but had no chance to throw out Concepcion, who crossed the plate to give the Baysox their 61st win of the season.

"His ball is running and sinking and I was just looking to get something up that I could get in the air to the outfield." Donachie said. "I waited back just enough on the slider and got it out to left field."

Tomorrow the Baysox look to make it two in a row as RHP Brandon Erbe (3-3, 2.08) takes the mound against New Hampshire RHP Adrian Martin (2-2, 3.45). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
