New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats' parent club - the American League's Minnesota Twins - directed a pair of personnel moves today resulting in the promotion of two Pitchers who were members of the 2009 Rock Cats.

The details are:

RHP Jeff Manship, a 24-year-old product of the University of Notre Dame who was the Rock Cats' 2009 Opening Day starter, has been called for the first time to the big club in Minnesota. The 6'2"/202-pound Texas native - who won 9 games for the Rock Cats over portions of the 2008 and 2009 campaigns - will join the Twins tonight from Rochester; he is expected to arrive in the Metrodome in time for their 8:10 PM game against Kansas City. Manship is the fifth New Britain Opening Day starting Pitcher in the last six years to be advanced to the Major Leagues in the same year. The others were J.D. Durbin (2004), Francisco Liriano (2005), Glen Perkins (2006), and Nick Blackburn (2007).

RHP Anthony Slama, the Eastern League's current leader in both Appearances (51) and Saves (25), has been promoted to Triple-A Rochester in the International League. The 25-year-old New Britain Closer departs the Hardware City with a record of 4 Wins, 2 Losses and the aforementioned 25 Saves. A 6'3"/207-pound product of the University of San Diego, Slama recorded 93 Strike Outs in 65 1/3 Total Innings of 2009 bullpen work for New Britain. This will be his first trip to the AAA classification.

Both Manship and Slama were selected by Minnesota in the 2006 Draft. The Twins picked Manship in the 14th Round, while Slama was taken in Round 39.

Both moves are effective immediately.
