Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Midland, Mich. - A first-inning surge saw the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) chase the Great Lakes Loons' (Los Angeles Dodgers) starter from the game. The Hot Rods would add six runs, and held off a minor Loons rally for a 12-6 triumph on Tuesday night.

In a matter of minutes, the Hot Rods found themselves with a 6-0 lead. Willy Adames and Kean Wong started the inning with back-to-back singles. Oscar Hernandez then reached on an infield single, and shortstop Delvis Morales threw the ball into center field trying to retire Wong at second. Adames scored on the play, and it moved the runners to second and third base. Ty Young cleared the bases when he followed with a double down the right-field line. Alexander Simon would send him home with a double of his own.

The scoring was far from over, as Armando Araiza and Elias Torres lashed back-to-back singles to continue the rally. After the first out had finally been recorded, James Harris capped the inning with a two-run single to center field. Starter Zachary Bird was chased after recording just one out, and the Hot Rods sent 10 batters to the plate.

Bowling Green would add to their big advantage with a pair of runs in the second. Wong led off with a single, and one out later came around to score when Young tripled down the right-field line. Simon then smashed another double to send Young home, and the Hot Rods lead swelled to 8-0.

With one out in the third, James Harris launched his sixth home run of the season over the left-field fence. The homer grew the lead to its largest, 9-0 in favor of the Hot Rods.

The Loons would not go quietly on Tuesday night, and after three errors kept the bottom of the sixth alive, Brandon Trinkwon hit a two-out, three-run home run to slice the lead to just four, 10-6. However, Bowling Green would add two insurance runs in the eighth to push the lead back to six. A run-scoring single by Elias Torres sent Young home, and a wild pitch would allow Simon to score later in the frame. The runs gave the game its final margin of 12-6.

Chris Kirsch (9-6) won his sixth consecutive start by tossing five innings and allowing just one run. He struck out six, and issued just one free pass.

Bird (5-14) got only one out in the first before he was chased from the game. The right-hander allowed six runs on eight hits

The Hot Rods will try for four consecutive wins on Wednesday night in game two of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT, and the Pepsi Pre-Game Show begins at 5:50 p.m. CT on the radio home of the Hot Rods, 1340 WBGN - The Ticket.
