Bes Nets Hat Trick: Bucks Sting Rayz 6-3

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League defeated the Corpus Christi Rayz 6-3 Friday night, in front of 4,718 fans at the American Bank Center.

Jeff Bes had his third hat trick of the season, and also added an assist as the Bucks won their second straight game to improve their record to 32-15-3 (67 points). Laredo's lead over Arizona remains at eight points at press time. With his four points Friday Bes now leads the CHL with 82.

Chris Korchinski added two goals and an assist for Laredo.

The first period saw just about everything with the Bucks taking a 3-2 lead, with all three Laredo goals coming on special teams (two on the power-play, one shorthanded).

The Rayz jumped out in front 3:49 in, when Geno Parrish sent a slap shot from the top of the right circle past Bucks goaltender John Ceci.

Laredo evened up the score at 1-1, as they tallied their CHL-leading 15th shorthanded goal of the season. Chris Korchinski took a pass from Igor Agarunov, and sent a shot from the slot past Rayz goaltender Jason Tapp. It was Korchinski's 18th goal of the season.

Corpus jumped back out in front 2-1 at 7:43 when they tallied a power-play goal. Justin Quenville sent a slap shot from the top of the right circle past Ceci. The Rayz power-play goal was during the same man advantage the Bucks scored shorthanded on.

Laredo tied the game at 2-2 when Adam Rivet sent in his 16th goal of the season, from just above the left circle on the power-play. Andrew Desjardins and Jeff Bes picked up assists.

The Bucks took their first lead of the game when they scored their second power-play goal of the period and made it 3-2 at the 14:19 mark. Bes sent a laser slap shot from just inside the right circle past Tapp. It was Bes' 34th goal of the season, with Steve Weidlich and James Hiebert tallying assists.

Laredo out shot Corpus in the first period 13-12.

Laredo increased their lead to 4-2 as they scored their third straight power-play goal of the game at the 4:20 mark. Bes sent a slap shot from the dot of the right circle, it went in as it hit the crossbar and crossed the line. It was Bes' second goal of the game, and 35th of the season. Desjardins and Serge Dube picked up assists.

The Rayz (16-25-6, 38pts) made it a 4-3 Bucks lead at the 9:37 mark when they tallied a shorthanded goal. Quennville took the puck past the right point on a two-on-one, and sent a pass to Jon Jankus at the left circle who sent a wrist shot past Ceci.

Laredo (13-10-2 on the road) dominated in shots on goal in the period, out shooting Corpus 15-4. The Bucks would outshoot Corpus overall in the game 43-23.

The Bucks would take a 5-3 lead at the 12:12 mark of the third, when Korcinski broke free past the Rayz defense to score on a break away past Tapp. It was Korchinski's second goal of the night, and 19th of the season.

Bes would pick up the hat trick at the 17:41 mark of the third, as he sent a shot into an empty Rayz net. Bes now has 36 goals on the campaign.

Ceci would pick up the win in net, setting aside 20 of 23 Rayz shots, while Tapp took the loss as he stopped 37 of 42 Bucks attempts.

Laredo improves to 23-2-1 when leading after two periods this season.

The Bucks will travel back to Hidalgo to take on the Killer Bees Saturday night at 7:35pm
