
Hounds Upend Blazers 4-2

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - Kevin Beech made 39 saves on 41 shots as the Youngstown SteelHounds defeated the Oklahoma City Blazers 4-2 on Friday night. The win improves the Hounds to 28-16-3 (59 points).
The Hounds struck first as Ryan Bennett recorded his first of the season with a power play goal at 2:01 to make it 1-0. It was Bennett's first game since January 5th. Anthony Becker then scored his first goal of the season at 12:30 to give Youngstown a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
In the second period it was the Blazers who were quick out of the gates as Marty Standish scored a power play goal for his 11th tally of the season at 16 seconds to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Hounds answered as Joel Irving sneaked a puck past Jason Wolfe for his 20th of the season at 9:12 to make it 3-1 after two periods. Wolfe was pulled in favor of Sean Connors after surrendering his third goal of the game. He made 13 saves on 16 shots. The Hounds were 2-10 on the power play while the Blazers were 1-8.
In the third period Kevin Jarman extended his point streak to seven games as he scored his 14th goal of the season at 8:49 to make it 4-1 Youngstown. Dallas Flaman scored for Oklahoma City with 4:44 to play but by then it was too late as the Hounds held on to a 4-2 victory.
Kevin Beech made 39 saves on 41 shots including 19 saves in the second period to earn his second consecutive victory as the Hounds goaltender. Sean Connors made 15 saves on 16 shots in relief for Oklahoma City. The win keeps Youngstown in second place in the Northeast Division and moves them into a tie with the Colorado Eagles for third place in the Northern Conference.
The Hounds and Blazers face-off again on Saturday night at 7:05 with the first 1,500 fans receiving SteelHounds "Rally Towels." It is also "My Big Fat Youngstown Wedding On Ice" as couples will be married right on the Chevrolet Centre Ice. The Hounds special pink jerseys for cancer awareness will be auctioned off following the game.
