Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Peoria, Illinois - The Beloit Snappers split the doubleheader against the Peoria Chiefs on Monday Night. Making up a postponed game from April 28, the Snappers won 2-1 in Game 1 and fell 2-0 in Game 2 in Peoria, Illinois.

In Game 1, the Snappers came out of the gates strong, all starting with starting pitcher Aiden McIntyre. McIntyre was marvelous on the night for Beloit, keeping Chiefs hitters off balance and earning the win.

McIntyre was working effectively and efficiently retiring the first ten Chiefs he faced in the game. That would give the bats plenty of time to get hot and they would do just that in the second inning.

In the second, the Snappers would get started with a single each from Logan Farrar and Anthony Churlin to put runners on first and third with no outs in the inning.

Just two batters later, newcomer Devin Foyle laced a single to plate Farrar and give the Snappers their first lead of the game. The hit and RBI were Foyle's first as a Beloit Snappers, as Foyle went 1-3 with an RBI in the game.

However, the Snappers were not done there, as one batter later, Skyler Weber singled into right field to plate Churlin and give the Snappers the 2-0 lead heading to the third.

That would be all that McIntyre would need as he was brilliant on the mound tonight. McIntyre surrendered just one earned run in the game through five and two-thirds innings of work while striking out eight and scattering three hits.

Eric Mariñez would be called upon in relief to close the game out for Beloit. Mariñez, already with four saves on the year, was perfect out of the pen retiring all four hitters he faced.

Marinez entered the game in the sixth inning and got a strike out to send the game to the seventh. Then, due to the doubleheader, Mariñez would get a groundout and two flyouts to set Peoria down in order and secure the seven-inning 2-1 victory for Beloit.

In Game 2, it was a nail biter the whole way with the Chiefs and Snappers playing another tight game, this time in favor of the Chiefs 2-0.

However, the scoring would take a little bit to get going this time, as neither team would get on the scoreboard until the third inning.

In the third, Peoria would finally get to Snappers starter, Adam Reuss, collecting 2 runs on 2 hits and an error in the inning. Before that, Reuss had retired 6 of 7 hitters faced and was cruising along in the ballgame.

The third inning would feature all of the scoring in the game though, as Reuss would settle into a groove on the mound throwing strong baseball through the fifth and not giving up any more runs. Reuss' final line would read six innings, 2 unearned runs, with 5 strikeouts and surrendering just 2 hits.

Unfortunately, the offense just could not get going for Beloit in the second game only collecting four hits total. However, that can definitely be credited to good pitching, as the Snappers actually outhit the Chiefs in the second game, but fell short in the run column 2-0.

The Snappers will be back in action tomorrow in the third game of this 3-day 5-game set in Peoria at 6:35 P.M. Chase Cohen is slated to get the start for Beloit in the contest and this will be his second start against Peoria this season.
