Beloit loses heartbreaker to Cedar Rapids 3-2

BELOIT, WI - It came down to the final innings tonight at Pohlman Field, but Beloit was just narrowly edged by Cedar Rapids 3-2 in a thriller. Beloit pitching was terrific almost all game tonight punching out 11 and surrendering just 8 hits, but it was unfortunately not enough.
The game would be deadlocked at zeroes all the way up until the fifth inning before Cedar Rapids would get on the scoreboard with a run. However, Beloit would answer right back in the sixth with a run of their own to even the score up.
In the sixth, Beloit would get two straight singles from Joseph Pena and Anthony Churlin to put runners on first and third with no outs. Moments later, Nick Osborne would hit a towering fly ball just deep enough to plate Pena and the Snappers first run of the game.
The game would not stay tied long though, as Beloit would take their first lead of the game collecting the go-ahead run in the eighth. In the inning, Pena would single once more and Churlin would continue his hot-hitting doubling to center field to plate Pena and give the Snappers their first lead of the game.
Unfortunately, though for Beloit, Cedar Rapids would score two runs in the ninth inning to take the lead back and eventually, secure the come from behind victory 3-2 this evening.
For Beloit on the mound, Richard Guasch got the start and was absolutely terrific going 4 innings surrendering no runs on 2 hits and 7 strikeouts. Joe DeMers was the second half of the tandem tonight and he picked right up where Guasch left off. DeMers ended his night after 4 solid innings surrendering just one run on 4 hits and punching out 2.
Tonight, wrapped up the homestand for Beloit and they will now hit the road for a four-game trip to Clinton. Beloit will be back at Pohlman Field next Wednesday through Friday with Fireworks on Friday, August 9.
