Lansing Lugnuts News Release

EASTLAKE, OH - The Lansing Lugnuts (19-21, 51-58) split their fourth four-game series of the year with the Lake County Captains (22-18, 62-47), dropping a 5-1 Friday night season series finale on Friday night at Classic Park.

The Lugnuts won the season series, 10-9, winning two of three in the lone three-game series between the two teams and evenly splitting the other 16 meetings in the four four-game series.

19-year-old Captains starter Matt Turner (Win, 2-0) held the Lugnuts to merely a Ryan Gold double in five scoreless innings, striking out three and walking four.

Lugnuts starter Sean Wymer (Loss, 5-11) did not fare as well, allowing a run on a bases-loaded double-play ball in the first inning, followed by two Captains runs in the fourth and the sixth on seven total hits and two walks, with four strikeouts.

Lansing's only run came in the eighth inning. Hunter Steinmetz drew a walk from Luis Valdez, moved to second on a wild pitch, to third on a groundout, and scored on a second Valdez wild pitch.

The Nuts finished with three hits against Turner, Jake Miednik and Valdez: Gold's double, a Griffin Conine single and an Otto Lopez double.

The second leg of Lansing's eight-game road trip brings the Lugnuts to Bowling Green, Ky. Right-hander Juan De Paula (9.48 ERA) starts against Hot Rods right-hander Easton McGee (3.75) at 7:35 p.m. Eastern / 6:35 p.m. local.

The Nuts return to Cooley Law School Stadium for a three-game series with the South Bend Cubs from August 7-9, capped off by LAFCU Fireworks on Friday, August 9th.
