Beloit Sky Carp News Release

The offensive struggles continued for the Snappers as they dropped the first game of a doubleheader against the Kane County Cougars, 3-1. Starter Michael McCardell picked up the loss for Beloit, going four innings and allowing three runs (two earned).

Kane County jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first three innings. The big blow for the Snappers came in the second inning off the bat of Cougars right fielder Todd Johnson. Johnson delivered a single to right with two outs driving in Greg Dowling and Christian Vitters. Dowling and Vitters were able to score on a two-base fielding error by Beloit right fielder Mark Dolenc.

The Snappers showed signs of life in the bottom of the fifth inning as Joe Benson hit a sacrifice fly to right. Benson's sac fly drove in catcher Daniel Lehmann, who earlier doubled, from third. Lehmann's run made it a 3-1 game.

That would be all she wrote for the Snappers, however, as they went on to lose by the final of 3-1.

Beloit reliever Loek Van Mil had a good showing, pitching two perfect innings and striking out three Cougars.

Upcoming Schedule: Beloit and Kane County finish up their four-game series tomorrow at Pohlman Field on Sunday at 2:00pm. Beloit will throw Daniel Berlind while Kane County will have Scott Mitchinson on the mound. Gates open up at 1:00pm.
