Trio Of Pitchers Toss Gem For Rattlers

DAVENPORT, IA -- Phillippe Aumont, Michael Pineda, and Bryan Harris were stingy on Saturday. The three Timber Rattler pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout in a 2-0 Wisconsin Timber Rattler victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits in game one of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Modern Woodman Park.

The Rattlers (1-1) used some small ball to get a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Edilio Colina drew a leadoff walk. Daniel Carroll dropped a sacrifice bunt to move Colina to second. A fly ball to deep center off the bat of Calvin Beamon sent Colina to third. Gavin Dickey beat out a bunt single and Colina scored.

Wisconsin added to the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Alex Liddi started the inning with a double. One out later, Blake Ochoa doubled to left to drive home Liddi and make the score 2-0.

Aumont finished off his first professional outing with a 1-2-3 fourth inning. He did not allow a hit over four innings, walked one, and struck out four before reaching his pitch limit.

Pineda relieved Aumont to start the bottom of the fifth and retired the first two batters. River Bandit catcher Luis De La Cruz doubled to center for the first Quad Cities hit of the game. Pineda retired the next batter to keep the Rattlers up 2-0.

Quad Cities (1-1) had a good opportunity in the bottom of the sixth inning. Pineda got the first out, but allowed a single, a walk, and a single to load the bases. Pineda struck out Charlie Pelt for the second out. Domnit Bolivar grounded into an inning ending force out and the Rattlers held on to the two-run lead.

Harris pitched a perfect seventh inning to earn his first save of the season.
