Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

One night after thrilling Quad Cities baseball fans with an Opening Night win in their return to Davenport, the River Bandits were stifled by an impressive duo of Wisconsin Timber Rattlers starting pitchers that dealt Quad Cities a pair of 2-0 losses in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park.

A warm and sunny afternoon brought 2,574 fans out to the ballpark, but Quad Cities (1-2) mustered just four hits without scoring a run. Phillippe Aumont and Donnie Hume both made their professional debuts in their respective starts, combing to allow just one hit while striking out nine batters over nine scoreless innings.

Aumont, the 11th overall pick in the 2007 draft, threw four hitless innings in game one without allowing a run and striking out four. He retired the last eight batters he faced and allowed just two baserunners, neither of which were able to advance past first base.

Meanwhile, the Timber Rattlers scored runs on Gavin Dickey's bunt-single in the third and Blake Ochoa's RBI-double in fourth to take a 2-0 lead. That was all they would need, as Michael Pineda (1-0) relieved Aumont with two scoreless frames to earn the win and Bryan Harris (1) worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to notch the save.

In game two, Hume (1-0) out-dueled River Bandits starter Nick Additon to earn the win. After walking the first hitter he faced, Hume retired the next 13 batters until Domnit Bolivar broke up the no-hitter with a one-out double in the fifth. An eighth-round pick out of San Diego State University, Hume turned in five one-hit innings and fanned five before Shawn Kelley (1) eventually came in to pick up the save.

Early on, Additon matched Hume pitch for pitch. The River Bandits' southpaw allowed a leadoff single to open the game, but responded by setting down 10 in a row - eight of which came on strikeouts. He fanned nine over four innings in all, allowing just two hits without figuring into the decision.

Wisconsin broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning against reliever Pete Parise. Alex Meneses doubled with one out and moved to third on a wild pitch. With the infield in Eddy Hernandez hit a hard groundball to the right side that was snared by a diving Jose Garcia, but despite the fine defensive effort Meneses scored on the groundout for the 1-0 lead. One inning later an unearned run gave the Timber Rattlers their second 2-0 win of the day.

ABOUT THE RIVER BANDITS: The series concludes on Sunday afternoon with a U.S. Bank Family Sunday, featuring a first pitch at 1:00 p.m. and a Noon start to "the show."
