Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
DAVENPORT, IA -- Three Wisconsin Timber Rattler pitchers one-upped the performance of their teammates Saturday afternoon at Modern Woodman Park Saturday afternoon. In game one, a 2-0 Rattler win, three pitchers combined on the three-hit shutout. In game two, also a 2-0 Rattler victory, Donnie Hume, Travis Mortimore, and Shawn Kelley combined on a one-hit shutout. Hume, making his professional debut, got the victory with five shutout innings.
River Bandit starting pitcher Nick Additon struck out nine over four shutout innings. But, the Rattlers (2-1) took advantage when Additon left due to reaching his pitch limit.
Alex Meneses doubled with one out in the fifth off reliever Pete Parise. A wild pitch moved Meneses to third base. Eddy Hernandez drove in Meneses with a grounder to second for a 1-0 lead.
Hume walked Justin Roberson to start the bottom of the first. The Rattler starting pitcher retired the next thirteen batters he faced. A double by Domnit Bolivar in the fifth inning was the first -- and only -- Quad Cities hit. Hume uncorked a wild pitch to send Bolivar to third base. He got the next batter for the second out, but walked Dave Carpenter to put runners on the corners. The River Bandits (1-2) wasted the opportunity as Hume got Jose Garcia to fly out to left for the final out of the inning.
A defensive lapse by Quad Cities allowed the Rattlers to pad their lead in the top of the sixth. Joe Dunigan singled with one out. One out later, Gerardo Avila singled to right field. The throw to the infield got away and Dunigan scored for the 2-0 advantage.
Mortimore relieved Hume to start the bottom of the sixth and retired all three batters he faced. Kelley entered the game in the bottom of the seventh for the Rattlers. He struck out a pair and retired all three batters he faced for the save and the sweep.
The four game series between the Rattlers and the River Bandits wraps up on Sunday afternoon. Rob Harmon is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Blake King is scheduled to start for the River Bandits. Game time is 1:00pm.
Wisconsin opens their home schedule on Monday night against the Clinton LumberKings. Tickets for the home opener are still available. Call the Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium ticket office 1-800-WI-TIMBER or (920) 733-4152 to order. Game time is 6:35pm.
