
Bees Hold off Kernels in Rain

(Cedar Rapids-IA) - The Burlington Bees (32-33) held on for a rain shortened 3-2 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels (33-31) on Tuesday night at Perfect Game Field.
For the second straight night, the Burlington Bees scored first. With the bases empty and two outs in the top of the first inning, Brendon Sanger drew a walk. The next batter, Jared Walsh, singled to left, putting runners at first and second. Jordan Serena gave the Bees the lead with a single to right, scoring Sanger, making the score 1-0. Alexi Rivera then made it 2-0 Bees with a single to right, scoring Walsh.
The Kernels responded in the bottom of the first inning. Luis Arraez and Daniel Kihle started the frame with back-to-back hits. After the next two batters were retired, Nelson Molina lined a single to center, scoring both Arraez and Kihle, tying the game at two.
Michael Pierson led off the top of the second inning with a double. After moving to third on a Webster Rivas groundout, Pierson scored on a Jared Foster double to right, giving the Bees the lead back at 3-2.
With the Bees batting in the top of the eighth inning, the skies opened up, as tarp was called for. The game would not resume as the Bees held on for the 3-2 win.
Bees starter Jaime Barria (6-4) settled down after allowing two runs in the first inning, Barria worked four straight scoreless innings, earning the win. Tyler Watson came on from the Bees bullpen and tossed two scoreless innings for his first save of the season. Kernels starting pitcher, Fernando Romero (4-1) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the Kernels wrap up the series on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05. Jared Ruxer makes the start for the Bees against Miles Nordgren for Cedar Rapids.
