Sacramento River Cats News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento River Cats (18-16) were shut down in a 7-2 loss to the Salt Lake Bees (21-14) on Thursday night, ending their winning streak at five games.

Bees right-hander Osmer Morales struck out seven River Cats in 5.2 innings allowing just three baserunners while Sacramento's starter failed to get through the second frame.

Tyler Beede's off night featured just five outs, including a grinding second inning in which he walked the first four batters. All told, Beede issued six free passes, something he had done just once before as a pro - last July in a loss to the Fresno Grizzlies at home.

Designated hitter Austin Slater recorded one of the team's five base hits, extending his streak to ten games, while outfielder Chris Shaw raked his ninth double of the season, plating Slater to tie the game in the opening frame.

Friday night's contest will conclude this four-game series. Left-hander Matt Gage (2-0, 0.82) will be making his first Raley Field appearance of the year after two stellar outings on the road in Las Vegas and Fresno. He'll face fellow southpaw John Lamb (1-0, 3.25). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT). Additional Notes

- Austin Slater is now just one back of Mac Williamson for longest hitting streak on the team in 2018. He continues to own an impressively high batting average, sitting at .378 while nearing 100 plate appearances this year.

- Right-hander Nolan Riggs made his Triple-A debut, relieving Beede in the second inning. He ended up throwing 60 pitches totaling 3.1 innings, making it his third longest outing since being converted to a relief pitcher in 2016.
