Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The New Orleans Baby Cakes (18-16) broke a late tie with four runs in the top of the ninth inning to complete an 8-4 victory over the Round Rock Express (12-23) on Thursday night at Dell Diamond. E-Train 1B Tommy Joseph finished 3-4 with a run scored in the defeat.
Round Rock RHP Deolis Guerra (2-1, 6.60) suffered the loss after giving up all four New Orleans runs on a total of three hits and a walk in the ninth inning. Baby Cakes RHP Tyler Kinley (1-0, 0.00) picked up the win following two scoreless innings of relief. Kinley allowed a hit and a walk while striking out two in the winning performance.
The E-Train dropped four runs in the bottom of the second inning to grab an early lead. LF Willie Calhoun and Joseph tallied back-to-back singles before the newest member of the Express, C Juan Centeno, singled to right field. New Orleans RF Isaac Galloway misplayed the ground ball, allowing Calhoun and Joseph to race home. 2B Andy Ibanez singled home Centeno in the next at-bat to extend the lead to 3-0. SS Hanser Alberto was then hit with a pitch. Rehabbing Texas Rangers DH Rougned Odor singled to score Ibanez, pushing the gap to 4-0.
New Orleans responded with solo runs in the next two frames. In the third, 3B Cristhian Adames and DH Rafael Ortega worked back-to-back walks off E-Train starter RHP David Ledbetter to open the inning. A two-out Magneuris Sierra single put the Baby Cakes on the board. An inning later, C Chad Wallach sparked a two-out rally with a walk. Ledbetter then walked Adames prior to an Ortega RBI single that narrowed the gap to 4-2.
With Express LHP Brandon Mann on the mound, the Baby Cakes leveled the game at 4-4 in the seventh thanks to an Adames single followed by a Galloway homer.
Two innings later, New Orleans pulled ahead for good with a four-run frame. Guerra surrendered a leadoff single to Ortega, then Galloway doubled home his designated hitter to give New Orleans the lead. Following an Eric Campbell walk, SS J.T. Riddle blasted a three-run homer to deep center field to extend the gap to 8-4.
The two teams conclude their four-game series on Friday night. Express RHP Yovani Gallardo (0-1, 5.17) is scheduled to start against Baby Cakes RHP Ben Meyer (2-2, 2.10). First pitch at Dell Diamond is set for 7:05 p.m.
