Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Tom Murphy connected on two home runs and compiled five RBI on Thursday evening, powering the Isotopes (17-18) to a 7-4 victory over the Reno Aces (14-21) at Greater Nevada Field. Albuquerque has now won nine of its last 12 games.
Both of Murphy's home runs were opposite field shots to right with the first coming in the fourth inning. Murphy's second round-tripper was a three-run homer in the sixth inning. The catcher now leads Albuquerque with eight home runs this season.
Murphy was not the only Isotope to have a big night at the plate. Josh Fuentes collected four hits for the second straight night, compiling two singles, a double and a triple. The third baseman became the first Isotope to record back-to-back four-hit contests since Ryan McMahon and Rosell Herrera both accomplished the feat on June 15-16, 2017. Fuentes also has 13 hits in his last 21 at-bats.
On the mound, Antonio Senzatela had another excellent start, shutting out the Aces for 5.0 innings. Senzatela yielded just four hits, two walks and struck out four batters. The right-hander finished his outing on a strong note, retiring the final six batters he faced.
Reno put pressure on Albuquerque in the final two frames, scoring four runs and brought the go-ahead run to the plate with two outs in the ninth. D.J. Johnson was also to close out the victory by striking out reigning PCL MVP Christian Walker to end the game.
The Isotopes close out their four-game series in Reno on Friday night. Albuquerque will send Jeff Hoffman (1-3, 6.04) to the mound while the Aces have fellow right-hander Kris Medlen (0-3, 6.00) scheduled to start. First pitch from Greater Nevada Field is set for 7:35 p.m.
