PAPILLION, NE - Duane Underwood Jr. put together another brilliant outing, boosting the Iowa Cubs (11-22) to a 5-3 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers (12-23), Friday at Werner Park. Underwood Jr. (2-3) allowed three hits, walked three and fanned three through 6.2 innings to help Iowa to a 3-1 series win.

Chesny Young sparked the scoring in the third, getting a free pass with one out. Wynton Bernard singled to put two on and both runners advanced on a passed ball. Mike Freeman collected one RBI with a single, before Efren Navarro brought in a second run with a sacrifice fly.

Iowa doubled its lead in the sixth, getting back-to-back singles from Bijan Rademacher and Chris Gimenez. Ryan Court cashed in this time with an RBI double and Young brought in the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. Young finished the night 1-for-1 with two walks and an RBI.

Underwood held the Storm Chasers hitless through 4.0, but Ryan O'Hearn spoiled the effort with a leadoff single in the fifth. Underwood faced 24 batters, just four above the minimum, and overall has compiled 13.2 scoreless innings.

Out of the bullpen, Randy Rosario contributed 1.1 perfect frames to drop his ERA to 0.55 on the season and maintain the shutout into the ninth. Iowa got into trouble in the final frame as Dillon Maples and Shae Simmons combined to walk five, fueling a three-run rally for Omaha. Simmons ended the threat in time to secure his second save of the season and the win for Iowa.

Eight of nine Iowa starters collected at least one hit and all five RBI came from a different player. Freeman led the effort with a 2-for-4 game, one walk and one RBI.

Iowa returns to Principal Park tomorrow for eight home games in nine days beginning with a 7:08 p.m. first pitch Saturday. Minor League Baseball President Pat O'Connor will present outfielder Jacob Hannemann with his 2017 MiLB Rawlings Gold Glove prior to the game.
