
Beca's Hat Trick Leads Everblades Over Stingrays

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (28-21-1-1) fell to the Florida Everblades (23-20-2-4) 5-3 on Matt Scherer Bobblehead Night and Wounded Warrior Night presented by SAIC at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday night.
The Everblades took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission behind two goals from forward Matt Beca. Beca opened the scoring at 1:22 deflecting a shot from defenseman Charles Landry between the legs of Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer (L, 25 saves on 30 shots). Forward Brayden Irwin grabbed the second assist. Beca gave the Everblades a two-goal advantage at 9:59 from forward Matt Marquardt and Irwin.
Stingrays defenseman Zach Tarkir cut the lead in half at 3:37 of the second period blasting a shot over the glove of Everblades netminder Shane Owen (W, 33 saves on 36 shots) from the right-wing point. Forwards Maxime Lacroix and Pierre-Luc O'Brien picked up assists. The Everblades responded with two more tallies to take a 4-2 lead. Forward Rylan Galiardi lit the lamp at 11:32 from forwards Alex Hutchings and Mathieu Roy. Forward David Rutherford netted his 16th goal of the season at 18:33 from Beca and defenseman Mike Ratchuk. With 59 seconds left, forward Tyler Shelast scored his first goal as a Stingray from forward Mike Hamilton and defenseman Johann Kroll.
The Stingrays pulled the game within one at 7:20 of the final frame when forward David de Kastrozza slipped a shot under the pads of Owen off the near post. Tarkir and Hamilton earned assists. Beca completed the hat trick on the power play at 10:36 with help from Hutchings. The Stingrays ended the game 0-for-5 on the power play while the Everblades went 1-for-4.
