Elmira Jackals News Release
Reading, Pa. - The Elmira Jackals snapped a seven-game winless streak on Saturday night at the Sovereign Center, overcoming a two-goal deficit with three tallies in the second period to beat the Reading Royals, 3-2. The victory was Elmira's first since Jan. 21.
Kenny Ryan tipped in a shot by Ryan Button at 6:21 of the opening frame, as Reading took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Yannick Tifu wristed a puck from the high slot that beat Brian Stewart through a screen as Reading extended its advantage to 2-0 at 2:30 of the second.
The Jackals put together a three-goal rally in the middle frame to take a 3-2 lead, an advantage it would hold for good. Chase Watson fired home his first goal as a Jackal from the right circle at 3:36, bringing Elmira to within one. Jordan Pietrus took a puck in the right circle and wristed it past Jussi Rynnas, tying the game, 2-2 at 12:20. Artem Demkov pushed in a puck through a scramble in front at 17:16, as the Belarus native scored his first goal since Dec. 9 to give Elmira its first lead.
Elmira silenced Reading in the third period, limiting the Royals to just six shots on goal.
Stewart (16-8-1-0) made 21 saves for his first win since Jan. 20. Rynnas (4-3-0-0) set aside 29 shots in the loss.
Elmira closes out the weekend in Trenton tomorrow, taking on the Titans at 4:00 p.m. The Jackals return home to host Wheeling on Feb. 14 at First Arena. To reserve your seats call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
