Jackals Rally in Second Period, Hold off Royals 3-2

Reading, Pa. - The Elmira Jackals snapped a seven-game winless streak on Saturday night at the Sovereign Center, overcoming a two-goal deficit with three tallies in the second period to beat the Reading Royals, 3-2. The victory was Elmira's first since Jan. 21.

Kenny Ryan tipped in a shot by Ryan Button at 6:21 of the opening frame, as Reading took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Yannick Tifu wristed a puck from the high slot that beat Brian Stewart through a screen as Reading extended its advantage to 2-0 at 2:30 of the second.

The Jackals put together a three-goal rally in the middle frame to take a 3-2 lead, an advantage it would hold for good. Chase Watson fired home his first goal as a Jackal from the right circle at 3:36, bringing Elmira to within one. Jordan Pietrus took a puck in the right circle and wristed it past Jussi Rynnas, tying the game, 2-2 at 12:20. Artem Demkov pushed in a puck through a scramble in front at 17:16, as the Belarus native scored his first goal since Dec. 9 to give Elmira its first lead.

Elmira silenced Reading in the third period, limiting the Royals to just six shots on goal.

Stewart (16-8-1-0) made 21 saves for his first win since Jan. 20. Rynnas (4-3-0-0) set aside 29 shots in the loss.
