The Aces outshot the Steelheads 13-5 in the first period, but it was Idaho who opened the scoring. Stephen Schultz scored on a rebound during a Steelheads power play at 4:44 to give Idaho a 1-0 lead. The Aces peppered the Steelheads net, but goaltender Jerry Kuhn was phenomenal, keeping Alaska off the board.

The Aces kept charging at Kuhn in the second, and finally got through on a power play of their own. Chad Anderson scored on a slap shot from the right circle at 3:29 to tie the score 1-1. Alaska continued to generate quality scoring chances, outshooting Idaho 18-8 in the second period, but could not find the go-ahead tally. The clubs went into the third period tied 1-1.

In the third period, the Steelheads once again took a lead when Cody Purves redirected a shot from the blue line at 4:42 to make it 2-1 Idaho. The Aces answered immediately when Swanson found Dan Kissel in the high slot 70 seconds later for a one-timer goal rocketed past Kuhn to tie the game 2-2. With time winding down, Swanson stepped up as the hero in the closing minutes. Chad Anderson put a low shot towards the net and Swanson tipped it from the top of the crease between the legs of Kuhn and into the net to give Alaska their first lead of the night and a 3-2 victory.

Adam Courchaine (16-8-4) earned the win, making 16 saves on 18 shots. Jerry Kuhn (16-16-5) suffered the loss, stopping 45 of 48 shots against. The Aces power play went 1-5, while the Steelheads went 1-2. The Aces outshot the Steelheads 48-18 in the game.
