Beazley And Lentz Placed On The Disabled List, Latimer And Plummer Added To Roster

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' right handed pitchers Travis Beazley and Richie Lentz have been placed on the disabled list, Lentz is retroactive to April 14th. Left-handed pitcher Will Latimer joins the Sea Dogs from Single-A Lowell and right-handed pitcher Jarod Plummer joins the club from Single-A Salem.

Latimer has appeared in just three games in his professional career over the past two seasons. The 23 year-old was selected by the Red Sox in the 22nd round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. After signing with the Red Sox on July 25, 2007, he reported to the Gulf Coast League Red Sox where he appeared in two games posting a 1-0 record with a 5.40 ERA. Latimer missed nearly the entire 2008 season, pitching just 2.0 innings in his only appearance at Single-A Greenville on June 11th, where he retired 6 of 8 batters he faced in relief. He was placed on the disabled list on June 14th and missed the remainder of the season. He has not yet appeared in a game in 2009.

Plummer was signed by the Red Sox as a minor league free agent on November 25, 2008. He spent the 2008 season with Kansas City's Double-A affiliate in Northwest Arkansas, going 4-1 with a 4.19 ERA in 29 appearances. He began the 2009 season with the Red Sox' Single-A team in Salem, Virginia where he made one start on August 12th taking the loss against Frederick. Plummer tossed five innings allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits. The 25 year-old was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 26th round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft.

Beazley made one start for Portland this season, suffering the loss on April 11th against Connecticut. Beazley tossed 4.1 innings allowing six runs on seven hits. The 25 year-old was selected by the Red Sox in the 38th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

Lentz appeared in one game for Portland this season, tossing two innings of no hit ball and recording five strikeouts against the Connecticut Defenders on April 10th. Lentz appeared in 16 games for the Sea Dogs in 2008, posting a 1-2 record with one save and 3.75 ERA. The 24 year-old was drafted by the Red Sox in the 19th round of the First-Year Player Draft.

The Portland Sea Dogs begin their first road trip of the season tonight with a 6:35 PM game against the Binghamton Mets in Binghamton, New York. The Sea Dogs will return to Hadlock Field for a seven game homestand on Thursday, April 23rd. Tickets are available for all remaining 2009 Sea Dogs home games.
