New Britain, CT- Luis Perez held the New Britain Rock Cats to two hits over seven shutout innings to earn his first career Eastern League victory as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats spoiled the Rock Cats' home opener, 2-0, on Thursday night at New Britain Stadium. It was the second straight 2-0 victory for the Fisher Cats, whose starting pitchers have combined to throw 22 consecutive scoreless innings.

New Hampshire (5-3) got all the offense it would need in the top of the first inning when Brad Emaus (1-for-3, 2B, HBP, R) doubled off losing pitcher Ryan Mullins, advanced to third on a single by David Cooper (1-for-4) and scored on a sacrifice fly from Brian Dopirak (2-for-3, SF, RBI) for a 1-0 lead. Chris Gutierrez (1-for-4, 2B, R) doubled and scored when Todd Donovan (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) doubled off Mullins (0-2) in the top of the fifth inning for a 2-0 lead.

Perez (1-1) struck out six and walked two in the win, reducing his ERA to 1.50 in two Double-A starts. The left-hander allowed only one Rock Cats' runner to reach second base.

Edgar Estanga and Zach Dials combined for a scoreless eighth inning before Leon Boyd recorded his second save in two nights with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Fisher Cats have won four of their first five meetings with the Rock Cats (2-6). The two teams continue their four-game series Friday afternoon at 12:05pm when New Hampshire right-hander Randy Boone (0-0, 0.00) makes his Double-A debut against New Britain righty Cole Devries (1-0, 1.69). Radio coverage begins at 11:45am on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.

The Fisher Cats open a four-game series against the Binghamton Mets on Thursday, April 23, with a 6:35pm game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The first 2,000 kids in attendance will receive a free Coca-Cola Fisher Cats Pennant. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
