New Britain Rock Cats News Release


NEW BRITAIN, CT - Rock Cats' starter Ryan Mullins turned in a solid performance, but he was out-dueled by New Hampshire's Luis Perez as the Fisher Cats shut out the Rock Cats 2-0 on Opening Night at New Britain Stadium.

Perez(1-1) baffled Rock Cats hitters, allowing just two hits in seven innings. He struck out six.

Brad Emaus continued his hot-hitting against the Rock Cats with a double in the first inning. David Cooper followed with a single that moved Emaus to third. Emaus then scored on a sacrifice fly by Brian Dopriak for a 1-0 advantage.

Mullins held the Fisher Cats at bay until the fifth inning when Chris Gutierrez started the inning off with a double. Mullins (0-2) retired the next two batters, but allowed a double by Todd Donovan that scored Gutierrez for a 2-0 lead.

Mullins allowed two runs on seven hits through five hits. He struck out seven while walking none. Frank Mata added 2 2/3 shutout inning in relief, in which he struck out four and allowed just one hit.

Leon Boyd notched his second save of the season with a perfect ninth.
