Bears look to end season on a winning note

The HERSHEY BEARS charge into the weekend with their Calder Cup Playoff fate already decided. The BEARS will host the Norfolk Admirals in the first round of the playoffs. Games one, four, five and six will be played at GIANT Center with the other three games being played at the Norfolk Scope. The series will get underway on Wednesday, April 19th in Chocolatetown at 7:00 p.m. Two BEARS will be racing for the regular season scoring title; Kris Beech and Tomas Fleischmann stand at 61 points and 59 points respectively. The plus/minus award will also go down to the wire. Mark Wotton and Tomas Fleischmann are tied at +12 heading into the weekend. Lawrence Nycholat has had the hot hand of late. It has been eight straight games since Nycholat has been held off the score sheet recording 2 goals and 10 assists in those games. HERSHEY is still chasing the 100-point mark. The BEARS currently stand at 99 points, good for second place in the East Division.

The Philadelphia Phantoms look to climb back to the .500 mark in the standings with a pair of wins this weekend. The club currently stands at 34-36-1-7 for a total of 76 points in the Eastern Conference. Tony Voce has the hot hand lately for the Phantoms; Voce has taken over the team scoring lead with 54 points. The last time the BEARS and Phantoms met, the Phantoms came away with a 5-4 victory with a pair of third period goals from Jim Campbell and Pat Kavanagh. The Phantoms will have 6'2" defenseman, David Printz, back in time for the game tonight. Printz was called up to the Philadelphia Flyers, but has now been reassigned to the Phantoms

Binghamton got some help from the Ottawa Senators on April 12th when they reassigned former BEAR Brad Norton and Filip Novak to the AHL club. Denis Hamel has led the Senators in scoring for the majority of the year; the All-Star currently has 87 points and a very impressive 1.18 points per game. The Sens have also been getting big production from former BEAR, Charlie Stephens. The center ranks 4th on the team in assists and 5th in goals. The BEARS have the upper hand in the season series thus far with a record of 4-2-0-1. Second year coach, Dave Cameron has counted on Goaltender Kelly Guard to log most of the minutes for Binghamton. Guard comes into the game with a record of 25-18-1.

You can hear all the action on the HERSHEY BEARS radio network beginning tonight live from Philadelphia and tomorrow from GIANT Center. The Philadelphia pre-game show will begin at 6:50 with the game getting underway at 7:05p.m. The BEARS final regular season home game will begin at 7:00 pm. with the pre-game show prior beginning at 6:45 p.m.
