Zajac joins River Rats

Albany N.Y. - The Albany River Rats announced today that center Travis Zajac has been signed to an amateur tryout agreement.

Zajac, 20, scored 18 goals with a team-leading 29 assists for 47 points in 46 games at the University of North Dakota (WCHA) during the 2005-06 campaign. He played in all 91 of UND's games in his two-year college career, scoring 38 goals and recording 48 assists for 86 points. This past season, Zajac had six (3-3) points in three NCAA tournament games, tying for the tournament lead as the Fighting Sioux reached the 2006 Frozen Four.

The 6-2, 205-pound pivot was originally drafted by New Jersey with their first choice (20th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Zajac will forego his remaining college eligibility following two seasons at the University of North Dakota

The Albany River Rats continue a stretch of four-games-in-five-days to close out the 2005-06 regular season when they host the Providence Bruins in the home finale on Saturday in a 5:00pm face-off at Pepsi Arena. The season concludes on Easter Sunday in a 5:05pm road match-up with the Binghamton Senators.

The Albany River Rats, owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., are in their 13th American Hockey League campaign and currently serve as the primary affiliate of the New Jersey Devils.
