Bears blast Albany for fifth win in a row, 5-3

Three goals in the second period by HERSHEY propelled the hottest team in the East Division to a 5-3 win at Pepsi Arena Wednesday night. The BEARS have now won five straight and seven of their last eight.

HERSHEY opened the scoring in the first period when Marek Svatos scored his seventh goal of the season. The power-play tally came at the 6:36 mark of the period with an assist from Mathieu Darche. Albany tied the game at one at the 9:57 mark of the first when Zach Parise tipped in a pass from defenseman Alex Brooks. HERSHEY outshot the Rats 12-9 in the first and went to intermission tied at one.

The BEARS exploded for three goals in the second period, with David Masse striking first at the 1:33 mark. Masse's goal was on the power play, and it also was his sixth against Albany this season. Carl Corazzini and Andre Savage assisted on the goal to give the BEARS a 2-1 lead. Mike Souza then scored his first goal in a HERSHEY uniform at the 9:14 mark of the period when Dennis Bonvie hit him with a pass in stride in the Albany zone. Dean Arsene also earned an assist on the goal to give HERSHEY a 3-1 lead. The BEARS made it 4-1 at the 17:48 mark of the second when Jamie Rivers scored his fourth goal of the season from Greg Barber and Souza. The Rats rallied with a short-handed goal from Ryan Murphy, and HERSHEY led after two periods 4-2. The BEARS outshot Albany in the second period 15-7.

Nick Naumenko scored the only goal of the third period for HERSHEY, who climb over the .500 mark for the first time this season at 18-17-1-0.

The BEARS play the second game of the current three-game road trip Friday night at Pepsi Arena against the Rats. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m.
