
Admirals look to strong start in 2005

2004 IN REVIEW...
* The Admirals posted a 51-24-3-4 record (.664) in 82 regular season games during the 2004 calendar year.
* They were 16-6 in 22 Calder Cup playoff games en route to the Calder Cup Championship. The Ads tied a league record with six overtime wins and were victorious in seven consecutive playoff games on foreign ice.
* The Ads were 67-30-3-4 (.678) in 104 total games in 2004, including 35-14-1-4 (.694) on the road.
* The Admirals were recipients of four additional team trophies including the Kilpatrick Trophy (Regular Season Champs), Clarke Trophy (Western Conference Playoff Champs), Poile Trophy (Western Conference Regular Season Champs) and the Chick Trophy (West Division Champs).
* Other Admirals were honored during 2004 for outstanding individual accomplishments. Coach Claude Noel was the recipient of the AHL's Pieri Award as the AHL's Coach of the Year. Defenseman Curtis Murphy won the Shore Trophy as the AHL's Outstanding Defenseman. Veteran goaltender Wade Flaherty won the Butterfield Trophy as the AHL's Playoff MVP and Timofei Shishkanov was selected to the All-Rookie Team.
0VERALL...The Admirals (20-9-2-1) enter 2005 action in the thick of the both the Western Conference and West Division battles. Six teams are within five points in the battle for the Western Conference lead. The Admirals currently trail the Rochester Americans (20-7-3-3) by three points. In the West Division, the Ads are in second place, a single point behind the Chicago Wolves (20-10-3-1) and five points ahead of the Grand Rapids Griffins (18-13-1-1). The Ads bring a two-game winning streak into this year's action.
THIS WEEK'S ACTION...
VS. CHICAGO...The Ads are 4-1-1-0 in six games versus the Wolves, including 3-0 on Bradley Center ice. The Wolves won the last meeting between the clubs the day after Christmas, 6-2 at the Allstate Arena. Milwaukee is 10-5-1 in the last 16 overall and 8-2 in the last 10 at the Bradley Center. VS. HOUSTON...The Ads and Aeros have split a pair of games this season with each team winning in the other teams' building. Milwaukee is 9-1-1-0 in the last 11 vs. Houston, including 3-1-1-0 at the BC.
LAST WEEK'S ACTION...The Admirals won the final two games of 2004. On December 30th, they defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs, 3-2. Darren Haydar and Brad Tiley each had a goal and an assist and Brian Finley stopped 23 of 25 shots. In Houston, the evening before Andrew Hutchinson scored a pair of goals and Simon Gamache (4a) and Haydar (1g-3a) had four points apiece leading the Ads past the Aeros, 4-1.
TRANSACTIONS...The Admirals have released Terry Harrison, P.J. Martin and Bryan Lundbohm. Harrison had two assists and is +2 in nine games with the Admirals. Lundbohm, who was a member of the 2003-04 Calder Cup Champion Admirals, but didn't play in the playoffs due to injury, was scoreless with two penalty minutes in three games. Martin had an assist and four penalty minutes in four games.
GOIN' STREAKIN'...Gamache has scored in eight of his last nine games and has amassed 15 points (5g-10a) over that span. The 5'9", 185-pound left wing has accumulated 33 points (10g-23a) in his last 21 contests giving him 44 (16g-28a) on the season to lead the Admirals and rank in a tie for fourth among AHL scorers. He also ranks tied for second in the AHL with 10 power play goals.
OFFENSIVE DEFENSEMEN...Andrew Hutchinson ranks third and Dan Hamhuis ranks eighth among AHL's leading defensemen in scoring. Hutchinson is third among Admirals scorers with 25 points (7g-18a), including 18 points (5g-13a) over his last 21 games. Hamhuis has 11 points (4g-7a) over his last 13 outings and 21 (6g-15a) for the season. His five power play goals is tied for the lead among AHL defensemen.
NOT FIDDLING AROUND...Veteran center Vern Fiddler leads the Admirals in plus/minus with a +14 and is second among Admirals' goal scorers with 12. The 24 year old, Edmonton native has 21 points (10g-11a) over his last 21 games and ranks fourth among Milwaukee scorers with 22 points.
HEY-DER HAYDAR... Darren Haydar has 19 points (7g-12a) over his last 15 games and is second among Admirals scorers with 27 points (11g-16a). In three games last week he posted three goals and five assists and earned the AHL's Player of the Week honors. He is the first Admiral to garner the award this season. The 2002-03 AHL Rookie of the Year, Haydar led the AHL in scoring during the 2003-04 Calder Cup playoffs with 26 points (11g-15a).
