
River Rats and American Red Cross to raise funds for Tsunami victims

Albany N.Y. - The Albany River Rats announced today that the American Red Cross will be accepting monetary donations at the club's January 7th game to assist in the worldwide effort to benefit victims of the recent earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Southern Asia and Eastern Africa. Fans attending the 7:00pm game against the Hershey Bears on Friday are invited to make a monetary donation to the Red Cross for distribution to the areas devastated by last week's natural disaster.
In addition to fan contributions, the River Rats have donated a number of prizes to be raffled off at the game for fans that would like to participate in the relief effort. Prizes will include autographed memorabilia and River Rats merchandise. All proceeds collected via cash, check or charge will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund.
"All of our thoughts and prayers are with those so terribly affected by this tragedy," said Garen Szablewski, President/CEO of the Rive Rats. "We hope that our efforts in partnership with the American Red Cross will help alleviate some of the pain they're experiencing."
Readers can also help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami emergency in Southern Asia and Eastern Africa by donating to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which will provide immediate and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance, and other support to those in need. Donations can be also be made through the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York at 33 Everett Road, Albany NY 12205. The Albany River Rats, in their 12th season as a member of the American Hockey League, are owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., and serve as the primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's New Jersey Devils.
