Beach Bums Rally Falls Short

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release


YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums rallied from an early 7-0 deficit but fell to the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti 12-7 on Wednesday night.

David Dinelli started for the Beach Bums and recorded only one out in his shortest outing of the season. Zack Pace and Roberto Mena walked to start the game while Clay McCord dropped down a bunt single to load the bases. Robbie Knapp scored pair of runs with a two-run single. Joash Brodin loaded the bases with a single and with one away Gil Zayas drew a bases loaded walk. Ryan Kruszka came out of the bullpen and walked Lee Rubin to force in a run. A sacrifice fly by Jonnie Knoble capped the scoring.

Two more runs opened the lead to 7-0 with two outs in the second. Robbie Knapp and Joash Brodin each singled and moved up on a wild pitch. Bryan Bonner drove them both in with a single to right.

Traverse City made a quick rally to get back into the contest. Andrew Franco led off with third inning with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Brandon McArthur drew a one out walk from Midwest starter Kyle Wink. Mike Epping drove in the first run and John Alonso plated a pair with a double to left. Mike Victor's two-run homer in the fourth made it a 7-5 advantage for the Sliders.

Midwest kept the Beach Bums at bay, stranding the tying runs on in the fourth and again in the sixth. The Sliders opened a 12-5 lead with five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Jonnie Knoble provided the big blow by driving in a pair of runs with a triple. Mike Epping connected on a two-run homer in the ninth to account for the final score.

Traverse City had nine hits in the game. Mike Epping, Andrew Franco, and John Alonso each had two hits in the contest. Epping drove in three while Alonso and Mike Victor each drove in two.

The series will conclude tomorrow night with a 7:05pm game as RHP David Nathanson (4-8, 4.24) takes the ball for the Beach Bums against RHP Mike Penn (7-4, 4.80). The contest can be heard live on The Fox FM.
