Beach Bums Drop Series Finale

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
JOLIET, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums got a good starting pitching performance from Bennett Whitmore, but couldn't get the offense untracked as the Joliet Slammers salvaged the final game of their series with Traverse City with a 4-1 win.
The Beach Bums defense, which had been rock solid through the first five games of the season hurt TC in the early innings as Joliet scored unearned runs in both the first and third innings to put up a 2-0 lead. The Slammers would add two more in the fifth on an RBI groundout and a doble from Kyle Maunus.
Traverse City would crack the scoreboard in the ninth as Chase Burch led off with a double. He would move to third on a wild pitch and come in to score on a Jeff Flagg groundout to create the final score.
Both starting pitchers were excellent in the game. Bennett Whitmore (0-1) went seven innings for the Beach Bums allowing just one earned run on six hits. Steven Maxwell was slightly better, throwing seven shutout innings for Joliet, striking out 10.
Offensively for Traverse City, Brian Heere paced the team with two hits.
The Beach Bums return to Traverse City for the home opener on Friday night with a 7:05 game against Windy City. Brooks Belter will make the start for the Beach Bums against Duke Dykeman for the ThunderBolts. It is a FANtastic Fireworks Friday and magnet schedules will be handed out to the first fans in the ballpark. For tickets or information, call 231-943-0100 or log on to www.tcbeachbums.com.
