Hawks Swept

FLORENCE, Ky. - The Florence Freedom scored three times in each of the first two innings and held off a Rockford comeback as the RiverHawks lost, 6-4, on Thursday.

The Freedom completed a three-game sweep of the RiverHawks, who are 1-5 to start the season.

Rockford starter Alex Szymanski was touched in the first inning for a RBI single by Chris Curley and a two-out, two-run single by John Malloy. Two batters after Peter Fatse hit a three-run homer in the second inning, Szymanski (0-2) left because of pain in his elbow.

Florence starter Alec Lewis (1-1) gave up three runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings and struck out four without a walk for the win.

Rockford leadoff hitter Brandon Anderson was involved in all four Rockford runs. In the third inning, Anderson doubled in a run, stole third base and scored on an errant throw by catcher Jim Jacquot. In the sixth, he scored on an error. In the seventh, he hit a sacrifice fly.

The RiverHawks' home opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday against Lake Erie. The Power Connection sponsors a postgame fireworks extravaganza.
