Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, broke a three-game losing streak in style with a convincing 7-2 defeat of the Lake Erie Crushers on a windy Thursday evening at the Corn Crib. The victory came thanks in large part to five RBIs from right fielder Sam Judah, with four of those tallies crossing the plate on his grand slam in the bottom of the 5th inning.

The inning started when CornBelter second baseman Chico Gomez drew a leadoff walk from Lake Erie starter Eric Gonzalez-Diaz (0-2). Left fielder Justin Clark and center fielder Alvaro Ramirez each followed with singles before Judah sent his blast over the left field fence to break a 1-1 tie.

The 'Belters didn't stop there. First baseman Steven Felix continued his hot start with a single before stealing second base. He then went to third on a Pat Trettel single, before scoring Normal's sixth run on an RBI groundout by third baseman Derek Luciano.

Luciano opened up the game's scoring in the 2nd when he singled with two outs in the inning, stole 2nd base, and scored on a single by catcher Mitch Rider. The 'Belters got their seventh and final run on another Judah single in the 6th, plating Ramirez for the second time.

CornBelter starting pitcher Tyler Stovall (1-1) registered his first win of the season, striking out four, walking five, while allowing just three hits, and one unearned run over five and two thirds innings pitched.

The 'Belters will play host to the Southern Illinois Miners on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Corn Crib. Justin Albert (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will take the ball for the CornBelters facing off against the Miner's Daniel Calhoun (1-0, 3.60 ERA). Pre-game on WJBC.com is at 6:20.

CEFCU Fantastic Friday presents Dave the Horn Guy as entertainment for the evening.
