
Baysox Take Series Opener over 'Wolves

The SeaWolves held an early lead on Friday night at UPMC Park, but could not hang on late as they dropped the series opener to the Bowie Baysox 6-4.
The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning against Bowie starter Dillon Tate. Danny Woodrow led off with a base hit, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a passed ball. Sergio Alcantara singled home Woodrow for a 1-0 lead. Alcantara would later score on a two-out, Isaac Paredes base hit for a 2-0 lead.
Bowie tied the game in the second against Erie starter Spencer Turnbull. With one out and Yusniel Diaz on first, Austin Hays doubled down the third base line to plate the runner making it a 2-1 game. Hays came around to score the tying run on an Anderson Feliz knock.
Erie regained the lead in the second. Troy Montgomery doubled with one out to the gap in left-center and moved to third on a groundout. He scored on a wild pitch for a 3-2 'Wolves lead.
The SeaWolves then went ahead by two runs in the home half of the fourth. Erie loaded the bases on consecutive singles from Jake Rogers, Kody Eaves and Montgomery. Cam Gibson lifted a sacrifice fly to left, plating Rogers, making it 4-2.
Erie was in control until the top of the sixth. Ryan Mountcastle tripled with one out and scored on an Aderlin Rodriguez sacrifice fly to make it a one-run game. Diaz then doubled with two outs and Hays followed with a two-run home run for a 5-4 Bowie lead.
The Baysox added a run in the ninth off of reliever Sandy Baez and held on for the two-run win.
Tate (6-4) earned the win for the Baysox allowing four runs on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
Turnbull (4-7) took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits with no walks and six strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
Zach Pop earned his first save for Bowie tossing the final 1.1 innings. Bowie's bullpen allowed just one hit over the final 3.2 innings of the game.
The SeaWolves and Baysox meet in the middle game of the series on Saturday night at UPMC Park at 7:05 p.m. Righty Beau Burrows (9-8, 4.05 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Bruce Zimmerman (1-0, 1.80 ERA).
Saturday night features post-game Zambelli fireworks presented by Preece Heating and Cooling. Before the game, fans can meet a SeaWolves player and C. Wolf at the Team Store to get an autograph thanks to Plyler Entry Systems.
