Akron RubberDucks News Release
Harrisburg's Rowdy Read doubled and drove in five runs, and Sterling Sharp worked into the sixth to earn his fifth win, as the Senators opened a three-game series with a decisive, 11-3 win over the Akron RubberDucks Friday night at FNB Field in Harrisburg, Pa.
Turning Point
The RubberDucks rallied from a 4-0 deficit to score three times in the sixth inning against three Harrisburg pitchers, but were turned away before they could tie it. Akron picked up runs on a fielding error, wild pitch and bases-loaded walk to close the gap to 4-3. With the bases loaded and only one out, right-hander Bryan Harper was summoned from the bullpen to face Daniel Salters. Harper put out the fire and preserved the lead by inducing a sharp grounder to third baseman Jake Noll who stepped on third and threw across to first for an inning-ending double play.
Mound Presence
Sharp (5-2) was, well, sharp, working 5.1 innings and allowing just three runs, two earned. The righty walked two and fanned three. Aaron Civale (5-7) started for the RubberDucks after being activated from the DL earlier in the day. Civale gave up a run in the first on a RBI fielder's choice by Read, and then three more in the third inning when Read's sacrifice fly was dropped for an error allowing a pair of runs, and an RBI single by Noll made it 4-0. Civale worked 4.1 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks (68-55) were held to seven hits, three of which went to Tyler Krieger, who finished 3-4 on the night. The Ducks left six men on base and went 0-5 with runners in scoring position.
