Curve, PA - After their game was suspended last night due to rain, the Bowie Baysox (14-18) picked up two wins on Wednesday afternoon against the Altoona Curve (13-18) to sweep a brief two-game series.

The Baysox pounded out 14 hits in the suspended game and won by a score of 7-4 and then got a strong pitching performance from Bobby Bundy to take the second game 4-1.

In the first inning of the first game, Jonathan Schoop led off with a double and went to third on a groundout by Zelous Wheeler. Then with L.J. Hoes batting, Schoop scored on a wild pitch. With two outs in the inning, Brandon Waring doubled and Manny Machado walked to put two runners on. Caleb Joseph then knocked them both in with a double to right to give the Baysox a 3-0 lead.

The Baysox added to their lead in the third. Hoes led off the inning with a walk. Then with one out, Machado hit a double that scored Hoes and gave the Baysox a 4-0 lead.

Altoona evened up the game in the bottom of the third inning. Anthony Norman led off with a single and went to third on a single by Quincy Latimore. The next batter, Kelson Brown, hit a sacrifice fly that scored Norman. Robbie Grossman and Elevys Gonzalez drew back to back walks to load up the bases. Then Tony Sanchez hit a bases clearing double to make the score 4-4.

In the top of the fourth inning the Baysox loaded up the bases with two outs for Brandon Waring, but then the rain began and the game was suspended. When action resumed this morning Waring popped out and the score remained tied.

The Baysox would take the lead in the fifth inning. Machado led off with a double and went to third on a groundout by Robbie Widlansky. Then with two outs, Carlos Rojas doubled to knock in Machado and give the Baysox a 5-4 lead.

With two outs in the seventh inning, Ronnie Welty added to the lead with a solo home run, his first of the season. Then Rojas and Schoop hit back to back singles to put runners at the corners. Zelous Wheeler followed with another single to knock in Rojas and extend the lead to 7-4.

Chris Petrini got the win in his first Double-A appearance. He pitched three shutout innings when the game resumed on Wednesday morning and allowed just one hit.

Pat Egan picked up his first save of the season. He threw three scoreless innings to finish off the game and struck out three.

The loss went to Tim Alderson who allowed three runs on five hits in three innings of work.

In the second game, the Curve got out to the early lead in the first inning. Robbie Grossman drew a lead off walk and then stole second. With one out in the inning, Jeremy Farrell hit a single to center that scored Grossman and gave Altoona a 1-0 lead.

The Baysox took the lead in the top of the fourth. Steven Bumbry led off the inning with his first home run of the season to tie up the game. Zelous Wheeler followed with a walk and L.J. Hoes hit a two-run home run, his second of the year. Then Brandon Waring doubled and scored on a single by Robbie Widlansky to give the Baysox a 4-1 lead.

Bobby Bundy threw six innings and allowed just one run on five hits to get his second win of the season.

Greg Burke pitched a scoreless seventh inning to get his sixth save of the season.

Mike Colla got the loss pitching six innings and allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

The Baysox will continue their six-game road trip tomorrow when they head to Richmond at 6:35 p.m. RHP Eddie Gamboa (2-0, 1.86) will make his first start of the season for the Baysox. The Flying Squirrels will send RHP Chris Heston (2-2, 1.01) to mound.

The Baysox return home on May 15 for a four-game series against the Altoona Curve. The series will include a Military Appreciation Night on Wednesday, May 16.
