Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release
RICHMOND, VA - Just over a month into their third season, the Richmond Flying Squirrels will welcome their one millionth fan through the gates at The Diamond during the upcoming home stand. In anticipation of this landmark moment in franchise history, which could happen as soon as Thursday's opening game, the Flying Squirrels are preparing a grand celebration. Fans will notice a countdown that will be updated daily throughout the home stand. The Flying Squirrels are currently 8,215 fans shy of 1,000,000.
"One million fans is a major milestone," said Flying Squirrels Vice President and COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "To be able to attract that many fans to The Diamond in less than three seasons is an incredible accomplishment that speaks volumes about how our fans and the entire Richmond community have embraced the Flying Squirrels."
After the one millionth fan enters The Diamond, the lucky individual will receive a bevy of gifts. The gift package includes four Flying Squirrels season tickets for life, a reserved parking spot specifically labeled "One Millionth Fan", a personalized Flying Squirrels jersey and a prize pack full of unique Squirrels merchandise and autographed items. Other gifts include $75 Edible Arrangements gift card, a certificate for a 32-piece box of Gearhart's Chocolates, a Club West Med Spa package and a Triplet Treasure gift pack from the Virginia Diner!
"We will make sure that our one millionth fan is treated to an unforgettable experience that they will treasure for the rest of their life," said Parney. "We believe this prize package combined with the pageantry of the moment will be a watershed event for both the lucky fan and the Flying Squirrels."
The Flying Squirrels attracted 463,842 fans in 70 home dates in their inaugural season in 2010. Last season, Richmond drew 447,520 fans to The Diamond in 67 home dates. Through the first two home stands, the Flying Squirrels are leading the Eastern League in attendance with 80,423 fans.
The Squirrels return to Richmond to open a four-game series with the Bowie Baysox at The Diamond on Thursday night at 6:35 PM. Richmond LHP Jason Stevenson (1-4, 7.20) will make the start opposite Bowie RHP Eddie Gamboa (2-0, 1.86). Tickets are available and can be purchased at SquirrelsBaseball.com.
