Bowie Baysox News Release
Akron, OH - In a game of large swings, the Baysox had the last laugh scoring 11 unanswered runs en route to a 15-7 win in Akron Wednesday night. The 15 runs tied a season high for the Baysox.
Bowie got out to a big early lead in the third inning. With Erick Salcedo at third base and two down, Ryan Mountcastle singled and later in the inning with the bases loaded, Martin Cervenka's two-RBI double made it 3-0. An inning later, a two-out, RBI-triple from Corban Joseph lifted Bowie to a 4-0 lead.
But Akron rallied. A two-out rally stunned the Baysox in the fourth inning as an infield single sparked a four-run game tying rally. Baysox starter Keegan Akin remained in the game for the fifth inning but left with two men on and two down. Nellie Rodriguez then doubled down the left field line scoring two runs to lift Akron to a 6-4 lead.
It would not last long. In the sixth inning, Austin Hays walked and Corban Joseph got into one, tying the score with his 17th home run of the season. Two batter later Bowie grabbed the lead as Aderlin Rodriguez lifted a titanic clout to left field. His 21st home run of the season put the Baysox atop 7-6. Yusniel Diaz then tripled and scored on a Rylan Bannon RBI-single and the Baysox were in front for good.
Akron was forced to use a position player to pitch with two down in the seventh inning. Akron infielder Alexis Pantoja allowed five runs in the eighth highlighted by a three-run Ademar Rifaela home run and Daniel Salters pitched the ninth.
The Baysox will send Brian Gonzalez to the hill for his final start of 2018. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning 20-minutes prior on 1430-AM, 99.9 FM and wnav.com.
The next Baysox home game will be Wednesday, August 31st as Altoona comes to town for the season closing Labor Day weekend series. Get tickets at 301-464-4865 or purchase online at baysox.com.
