Bats Win Fourth Straight, Top Charlotte 6-2

LOUISVILLE, KY - Reds top prospect Elly De La Cruz made his Triple-A debut for the Louisville Bats (6-11, defeating the Charlotte Knights (8-10) 6-2 on Thursday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

Louisville jumped in front early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Alejo Lopez led off the effort with a line drive double, later scoring on an infield single by Matt McLain. With two outs, McLain and Nick Martini scored on a TJ Hopkins double, taking an early 3-0 lead.

Charlotte trimmed the deficit by scoring two runs in the top of the third inning, making the score 3-2.

The Bats began to pull away in the next half inning, scoring two runs with two outs. Martini and Hopkins scored on back-to-back line drive singles off the bats of Henry Ramos and Alex McGarry to extend the lead to 5-2.

Reds top prospect Elly De La Cruz made his debut, hustling out a double in the fourth inning for his first career Triple-A hit.

Bats starter Chase Anderson (2-1, 3.15) was solid in his fourth outing of the season, tossing five innings giving up only two runs and five hits while striking out three batters. The win is Anderson's second in back-to-back outings.

The following innings were quiet offensively until McLain added an insurance run to the Louisville lead, blasting a home run to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning, making the score 6-2.

Charlotte threatened a comeback with two singles to lead off the top of the ninth but were ultimately shut down by Bats reliever Alan Busenitz (0-0, 1.29), sealing the Louisville win, the team's fourth in a row, with a final score of 6-2.

The Bats will continue the six-game series against Charlotte with game four tomorrow night, Friday, April 21 with first pitch set for 7:15pm E.T. Ben Lively (1-0, 3.60) will make his third start of the season for Louisville, facing off against Knights pitcher RHP Jesse Scholtens (1-0, 6.00)
