Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A combination of home runs and dominating pitching pushed the Louisville Bats (45-57) past the Rochester Red Wings (46-56) by a 3-2 score in game two of the series. The Bats have now won ten of their last twelve games.

Cody Reed (3-8, 4.35) undoubtedly had one of his best outings this season and was untouchable on the mound for six of his seven innings, while not allowing a walk. He went 7.2 innings surrendering two earned runs from four hits while striking out nine batters on 101 pitches (69 strikes). This is the second consecutive outing that Reed has struck out seven or more batters.

Following a quiet opening inning, Steve Selsky came up in the second and smacked his ninth home run of the season to give the Bats an early 1-0 lead. Feeding off his teammate, the third inning saw Taylor Sparks with a lead-off homer, his first career Triple-A home run, to extend the lead by two.

Cody Reed continued to blank the Rochester hitters until the sixth inning. After a double and a single plated two Red Wings, a follow-up single from Gregorio Petit then scored both to tie the game. Nevertheless, the Louisville defense was remarkable behind Reed with sliding catches and sharp infield defense to keep the Red Wings off the board for eight out of nine frames.

The second-half of the game was under control of the Bats. Blake Trahan broke the tie game with his fifteenth double of the season. A wild pitch sent him to third when Josh VanMeter cranked a sac fly to deep left field to send Trahan home and put the Bats ahead by one.

So much can happen in one single inning as was the story for the eighth. Chadwick Tromp instigated the domino of singles and was followed by O'Grady, Peterson and finally Iribarren which resulted in two more runs for the Bats to seal a 5-2 win over the Red Wings.

The teams will face off in the final game of the series Sunday night at Louisville Slugger Field. Right-hander Robert Stephenson (10-6, 3.06) will go for his eleventh win against Rochester southpaw Stephen Gonsalves (7-3, 3.04). First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
