Bisons Fall in Seesaw Affair to Indians, 6-4
July 28, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Herd was locked into a back-and-forth contest with the Indians Saturday night from Victory Field. Buffalo battled from behind twice to take a lead in the fourth, but a bases-clearing double by Jacob Stallings with two outs in the seventh negated the comeback win in a 6-4 defeat.
The Bisons were held to just one hit after the first four innings of play and both teams registered seven hits.
Despite the loss, the Bisons were resilient at the plate. They evened the score in two separate innings early in the game, benefitting from a couple of fielding blunders.
In the third, Gio Urshela doubled and scored on a wild pick-off attempt from Indians' starter Mitch Keller that went into the outfield. Darnell Sweeney bunted for a single to move Urshela to third base, which put him in a position to cross home on the error. Sweeney later came home on an RBI-groundout by Dalton Pompey.
Bisons' newcomer Billy McKinney started a two-run fourth inning by ripping a double off the right field wall. He eventually reached third base and got hung up on his way to home plate but a throwing error by first baseman Wyatt Mathison allowed him to score easily.
Reese McGuire advanced to second base on the error and tallied a run after Sweeney capitalized on a two-out chance by hitting a single. This gave the Herd a 4-3 advantage--its first lead of the game. That advantage held weight until the seventh when the Indians broke through for three runs in the decisive seventh inning.
Jonathan Davis has now reached base safely in 12 of his 14 games since being promoted to Triple-A. He went 2-4 in the game and with a stolen base Saturday night, he is a perfect 5-5 in stolen base attempts.
