Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indians won in comeback fashion for a third straight ballgame thanks to a two-out, three-run double by Jacob Stallings in the seventh inning, sending the Tribe to a 6-4 triumph over the Bisons on Saturday night. The thriller was Indy's 20th comeback win of the season.

The Tribe (57-47) scored all three runs after the stretch off right-hander Conor Fisk (L, 2-4), who blew his third save in four opportunities. With one out and nobody on, Pablo Reyes and Kevin Newman lined consecutive pitches from Fisk into center field to spark Indy's latest rally. After Max Moroff drilled a deep lineout to the warning track in right, Christopher Bostick drew a walk to set up Stallings' bases-clearing double. The two-bagger was his second of the game and gave him four RBI on the night, his most since a four-RBI effort on July 6, 2017 in Columbus.

Montana DuRapau (W, 1-0) continued his dominant relief performance with a third shutout frame in the eighth, and Tanner Anderson (S, 5) retired the side on five pitches in the ninth for the save.

Indy settled for one run in the first after loading the bases with no outs against former Tribe pitcher Brandon Cumpton. Newman singled and swiped his league-high 25th base ahead of back-to-back walks worked by Moroff and Bostick. Stallings then bounced into a 5-4-3 double play, scoring Newman from third.

Ryan Lavarnway doubled Indy's lead in the second with an opposite-field homer, his seventh overall this season and fifth at Victory Field. All five of his home runs at The Vic have sailed over 400 feet.

Buffalo (46-54) pulled even in the third on three hits and an error. Gio Urshela doubled to start the frame, and Darnell Sweeney then legged out a single on a bunt up the third-base line. Tribe starter Mitch Keller followed with an errant throw to first on a pickoff attempt, allowing Urshela to score and Sweeney to reach third. Dalton Pompey plated Sweeney moments later on a high chopper back to Keller.

Stallings put the Tribe back on top 3-2 in the home half with a two-out double to left. The visitors rallied for two in the fourth, however, one scoring on a Kevin Kramer throwing error and the second crossing home on a Sweeney two-out single.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Keller allowed four runs - two earned - on six hits over 5.0 innings pitched. He struck out four and walked just one batter. Cumpton surrendered three earned runs on three hits and three walks in 5.0 innings of work. Three of his four punchouts were of the looking variety.

Newman had two hits and two runs scored atop the order. The Indians improved to 21-9 when the 24-year-old records a multi-hit game.

The Indians and Bisons conclude their five-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch for Game 1 is 12:35 p.m. EDT, and Game 2 will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1. Left-hander Brandon Waddell (4-5, 4.50) will face Bisons southpaw Matt Tracy (0-0, 2.78) in the opener.
